About GenShelf
GenShelf is a free hub of online generators — QR codes, passwords, usernames, lorem ipsum, UUIDs, color palettes, hashtags, fake names, invoices, word counters, UULE, and more. Tools that load fast, work on mobile, and don’t need an account.
Who runs this
I’m a solo maker. GenShelf isn’t a big company or a faceless “we” — it’s one person building and maintaining the site. You can reach me at genshelf@gmail.com.
Why I built it
I kept opening the same kind of utility sites — password generators, QR makers, UUID tools — and bouncing off signups, slow pages, or tools that shipped my input somewhere for “processing.” I wanted a small shelf of generators that stay in the browser, stay free, and stay boring in the good way: open the page, get the output, leave.
Guides came next for the same reason. A tool is more useful when there’s a practical article next to it — not keyword filler, just the bits you’d tell a teammate.
How the tools are built
Whenever a generator can run without a server, it does. Passwords use the Web Crypto API. UULE values are encoded and decoded in the page. Invoices, palettes, QR codes, and word counts never need to leave your device to produce a result. A few details (like invoice “From” fields) may stay in this browser’s local storage so the next visit is faster — that is on your machine, not a GenShelf account.
I would rather ship a slightly simpler tool than collect emails to “process” a UUID. If a future tool truly needs a server, it will be obvious, optional, and described on that page and in Privacy — not snuck in behind a spinner. The longer write-up is what stays in your browser.
How guides are written
Each article is meant to answer a real job: check a local SERP, pick v4 vs v7, print a QR that actually scans, invoice a client without missing a PO field. I write from using the tools and from the failure modes people hit — truncated meta descriptions, low-contrast palettes, city nicknames that encode into the wrong UULE. Guides are not keyword wrappers around a widget. If a page cannot teach something you would tell a teammate, it does not belong in Guides.
What’s next
More generators people actually need day to day, clearer how-tos on the tools that are already here, and small polish (exports, defaults, mobile quirks) when something feels rough. I’m not chasing a huge platform — just a reliable shelf that gets a little better over time.
If something’s broken or missing, say so. A short note beats a long feature wishlist.
Privacy and ads
Generation happens in your browser whenever possible. Your inputs aren’t uploaded to GenShelf for storage. The site is supported by advertising (including Google AdSense) so hosting and ongoing work don’t require paywalls or accounts. Ads don’t change that privacy model — see Privacy for the details.
